How Waivers Work

The process for clearing a player through waivers is as follows:

a. Player X has zero options, is on a Major League Roster, and his owner wants to send him down to his Minor league roster

b. The owner of Player X sends an email out to the entire league stating that Player X has zero options remaining and he is putting him through waivers for the purpose of sending him down.

c. The other 15 owners then have 2 days to decide if they want to put a claim on Player X.

d. If, after 2 days (48 hours) no owner puts a claim on Player X, then Player X may be sent down to the minor leagues.

e. If another owner does put a claim on Player X, Player X’s current owner has another 2 days to decide if he wants to let Player X go to the other team or if he wants to pull Player X off of waivers.

f. If another owner puts a claim on Player X and is given player X, Player X MUST be placed on the new owners Major League roster. If he wants to send him down to his Minor League roster he must place Player X through waivers.

g. During the time that Player X is on waivers, his owner cannot make a move to call someone up to take Player X’s place. If Player X is on waivers he is still counted on the Major League 25 man roster.

h. If you try to clear a player through waivers before the free agent pickup deadline has passed you must pick a free agent up to get your roster back at 50 (not including Little League roster spots)

i. If you try to clear a player through waivers following the free agent pickup deadline and lose him to another team, you will not be allowed to pick someone up to take his place, and you will be stuck at 49 (Major and Minor league roster total) until the transactions open back up.

j. If you are awarded a claim on a waivered player, you must immediately drop another player to get your rosters down to 50 (not including Little League roster spots) unless you are at less than 50 at the time you are awarded the player.

k. If more than one team puts a claim on a player being put through waivers and the player is not reclaimed by the original owner, the owner with the worse record will be awarded the player. If the owners have identical records, a head-to-head tiebreaker will be used. If still tied after that, a coin flip will determine which team gets the player.
